Information

 

Sonerion 44 is organizing competitions during the Celtiques de Guérande festival.
These include:

• A solo drumming competition, which is a qualifier for the Brittany Championship final in Pontivy on November 8, 2025

• A duo competition (bombarde/bagpipe or bombarde/koz)

• A trio competition (bombarde/bagpipe/drummer or bombarde/koz/drummer)

 

The Trio Competition awards the Bob La Coop Trophy.

The competitions will take place next to the Porte Saint-Michel, on Sunday (Saturday possible depending on number of registrations).
Start time: 10:00 AM, with results announced at 7:00 PM.

The start time is subject to change depending on the number of participants.

SOLO DRUMMING COMPETITION

Sunday Afternoon

 

The Comité Taboulinerien is organizing the Brittany Championship for Solo Drummers, with departmental qualifiers leading to a national final held in Pontivy (56) in November, as part of Devezh an Taboulin.

 

2025 Qualifying Dates:

• May 10 – Locoal Mendon (56)

• May 18 – Vern-sur-Seiche (35)

• June 8 – Plouha (22)

• June 29 – Menez Meur (29)

• August 10 – Guérande (44)

 

Categories (based on age):

• Under 11 years

• Under 14 years

• Under 18 years

• "Open" Category

 

Each competitor may register in only one category for the year. They may choose to compete in an older age category if desired.

All competitors must be accompanied by 1 to 4 musicians, playing melodic instruments of the bagad or other traditional acoustic instruments. Amplified instruments are not allowed.

 

Qualification Rules:

• For Under 11 and Under 14:

  • 2 qualifying spots for the top 2 unqualified competitors

  • If 10 or more competitors: 3 spots

• For Under 18 and Open:

  • 2 qualifying spots for the top 2 unqualified competitors

  • The drumming committee may adjust qualifiers if necessary

TRIO COMPETITION – “BOB LA COOP TROPHY”

 

Sunday Afternoon

• Duo: Bombarde + biniou koz, bagpipe, or veuze

• Open percussion (acoustic)

• Repertoire: March or melody + traditional dance suite

• Performance time: 5 to 7 minutes

 

DUO / COUPLE COMPETITION

 

Sunday Morning

• Bombarde + biniou koz, bagpipe, or veuze

• Category A: 5 to 7 minutes – march, melody, and free traditional dance

• Category B: 3 to 5 minutes – march and free traditional dance

 

SOLO BAGPIPE COMPETITION

 

Sunday Morning

• Category A1: 4 to 6 minutes – Breton music

• Category A2: 4 to 6 minutes – Scottish or Irish music

• Category B1 (under 15): 2 to 5 minutes – Breton, Scottish, or Irish music

• Category B2 (open): 2 to 5 minutes – Breton, Scottish, or Irish music
